Hachimanyama Castle was built by Toyotomi Hidetsugu in 1585 on the summit of a mountain 271.9m above sea level. It is a large fortress with the main enclosure at the top of the mountain, the second enclosure, the western enclosure, the northern enclosure, and the outer enclosure, and it is said that the buildings were moved from the abandoned Azuchi Castle. Currently, only the stone walls remain, but the remains of Murakumo Gosho Zuiryuji Monzeki, Hidetsugu's family temple, quietly stand on the site of the main enclosure. It takes about 4 minutes from the base to the summit on the Hachimanyama Ropeway. From the summit, you can see Lake Biwa and the old castle town of Omihachiman.
