Sumoto Castle

Sumoto Castle

Last update

A castle built in the area around Mikumayama facing Osaka Bay. It is said to have been built in 1526 by the Atagi clan, who led the Awaji Navy. Wakisaka Yasuharu, who became the lord of the castle in 1585, built the castle tower and maintained the castle by constructing a stone wall connecting the "upper castle" and the "lower castle." Currently, the castle tower base is home to Japan's oldest replica castle tower, built from reinforced concrete (entry is not permitted).
