Visitors looking for a pristine historical town to visit while traveling near Kyoto, Osaka, or Nagoya should look no further than Hikone in Shiga Prefecture. This charming castle town on the eastern shore of Lake Biwa offers incredible sights like Hikone Castle, a designated National Treasure, and the Genkyuen landscape garden. Hikone is also the perfect place to try melt-in-your-mouth Omi beef, revered as the pride of Shiga. Or, even better, learn to cook it yourself!
During this hands-on teppanyaki experience, you'll learn how to carve and flambe your own Shiga-speciality Omi beef steak under the tutelage of seasoned Chef Yamada at his very own restaurant, La Cuisine Enju, a beloved French modern restaurant specializing in seafood and steak.
At the sleek counter of La Cuisine Enju, Chef Yamada will offer valuable insights gained from years of culinary training and experience as he teaches you to cut, flambe and prepare a premium 140g beef steak on a teppan grill. After your work is finished, you'll also enjoy a course meal consisting of an appetizer, roast beef, soup, grilled vegetables, garlic rice, a pickled dish, miso soup and sorbet prepared by the chef.
Chef Yamada's impressive background includes studying in France for two years at prestigious two- and three-star restaurants, followed by serving as a chef at renowned establishments in Japan. In 2020, he proudly opened La Cuisine Enju to share some of his best-kept culinary secrets and the finest Omi beef with guests from around the world.
