Nara Historical Hiking Tour & Breakfast Picnic in Asuka

Nara Historical Hiking Tour & Breakfast Picnic in Asuka

Last update

Relics of ancient Japan can still be found in Asuka, the country's first capital in central Nara Prefecture. Home to stunning natural beauty and archeological treasures, Asuka may be lesser known than Japan's other old capital (Kyoto), but it is equally captivating to visit.

In this unique exploration of Asuka led by friendly locals, you'll discover some of the historical gems of the area and soak in some of its most impressive views. While the exact itinerary is subject to change, the landmarks and stops included are typically as follows:

Experience flow:
- Your journey begins at the Asuka Yume no Rakuichi, a local farmer's market where you'll meet your guide.

- Your first stop will be the Asuka Mizuochi Ruins, a historical landmark and archaeological site where you'll see the remains of Japan's oldest water clock.

- Step into history at the Asukadera Temple, one of Japan's oldest temples, built in 596 A.D. Showcasing the influence of Korean architecture, the temple is also home to the oldest Great Buddha statue in Japan.

- Take the Manyo Botanical Garden Route and hike up the pristine trails of Asuka Historical National Government Park to the Amakashi-no-Oka Observatory.

- Indulge in a delightful breakfast and freshly roasted coffee while taking in the awe-inspiring views of the village and the majestic mountains from the Amakashi-no-Oka Observatory. Vegan and vegetarian-friendly options are available.

- As your tour ends, you'll return to the Asuka Yume no Rakuichi farmer's market, where the adventure began. Here, you'll have the opportunity to reflect on your experiences and pick up some souvenirs to remember your trip by.
