Tango Open Center's Open Factory: World of Refinement

Open Factory: World of Refinement - Experience an exhibition at Japan's largest silk refining factory. The Tango area supplies 70% of Japan's pure piece-died silk. You can visit the largest silk refining factory in this area. Here, refined silk is dried, rearranged and inspected for quality. Pieces that pass inspection are labeled as Tango chirimen silk. Tango's pure silk is essential for yuzen and other dyeing processes. Tango chirimen silk has been used to support kimono, Japan's traditional attire, for more than 300 years. Currently, we are weaving thread-dyed cloth textiles, such as Nishijin textiles and synthetic fibers used for Western-style clothing and interior decorations. These textiles also are widely used in many luxury maison fashion houses in Europe. Tango is a center for supplying silk and other textiles. This is a valuable, one-of-a-kind experience allowing members of the public to experience a factory tour of the Tango chirimen silk refining process, which had previously been limited to industry professionals.

(Traditional Weaving Hatcho Twisting Machine) We use a machine that gives the weft a strong twist. This gives the textiles a varied texture that is pleasant to the touch.
