Indulging the senses on a farm and food experience of the rustic charm of Kyoto's Ohara countryside
This is a two-hour itinerary where you can experience picking organic vegetables at a farm and traditional food (shibazuke) workshop in Ohara, Kyoto. (This includes lunchtime.) After arriving, you will first harvest vegetables for your salad bowl. You will gather vegetables, which may include lettuce, baby greens, carrots, onions, tomatoes, rocket, dill, mallow, and calendula. These varied, pesticide-free veggies, herbs, and edible flowers can then be enjoyed with FARMY's special soy milk mayonnaise and carrot dressing. Along with your salad bowl, you can also enjoy a veggie burger made with seasonal vegetables, accompanied by red shiso juice, which is unique to Ohara, as well as hot, crispy potatoes (all freshly harvested when in season). While waiting for your hamburger and salad bowl, you can stroll along the satoyama (wooded nature) trail to the workshop where you can experience traditional Ohara pickling. Touring the historic workshop, you will pickle some freshly harvested vegetables in fermented rice bran using aged lactobacilli, taking them home as a souvenir. Afterward, you'll enjoy a hamburger meal and salad bowl at the FARMY clubhouse, where you can enjoy a relaxing moment as you soak up the stunning views of the Ohara satoyama scenery.
