Narutotai (Honke Matsuura Shuzo) is a brewery located in a countryside valley of Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture on Shikoku Island. Dating back over two centuries, this brewery was an important location along the Muya Kaido highway since the Edo period. Still active as a brewery today, Narutotai works diligently on traditional sake-making that draws on local nature. Held in collaboration with the Fukuju Shoyu soy sauce brewery located directly across from it, this is a special opportunity in which the respective brewers serve as your guides onto the brewery floor, normally off-limits to ordinary people. The brewers explain the various types of sake and soy sauces while you enjoy a relaxed tasting together with local foods. Step inside the deep world of brewing culture.

The brewery building itself is a precious antique built with unique traditional Japanese techniques.
Take this special opportunity to enter a Japanese sake brewery and learn about their production techniques and equipment in depth.
As the brewers explain the products, enjoy a relaxed tasting of multiple types of Japanese sake with snacks made from local ingredients.
Also visit the soy sauce brewery located directly across from the sake brewery to explore the deep world of Japanese brewing techniques.
At the soy sauce brewery, you will have a special opportunity to experience the traditional production process just as it was in the past.
In your tasting, see if you can tell the differences in soy sauce flavors resulting from different production techniques or ingredients.
If you like any of the sake or soy sauces, you may of course purchase them to take home. There are also exclusive products only available from the brewers as direct producers.
Also recommended is the historical trail along the old highway that will make you feel as though you time traveled back to old Japan.
