At the fishing port of Ooi, fish are caught using a traditional fixed-net fishing technique. Fishing crews go out almost every day except Saturdays. The day's catch is sorted by fish species and size, and then sold at auction. A huge variety of fish are caught using the fixed-net technique, including Japan's largest catch of largehead hairtail or beltfish, which is caught year round. Watch the whole sorting and auctioning process, usually never seen by the public, and enjoy the atmosphere of this lively fishing port. After watching the auction, you can experience making Arida-style sushi using green mandarin juice at a guesthouse in Arida city.
