A traditional craft dating back around 900 years to the late Heian period, Echizen-yaki or Echizen ware is known as one of the six ancient kilns of Japan. It harnesses the characteristics of Echizen's soil to produce a sturdy, rustic style of pottery. Natural glazes are used to create rustic textures. Young artists have recently begun experimenting with new styles. Try your hand at authentic pottery using an electric potter's wheel to make your own Echizen-ware donburi bowl. The finished product will be delivered to you a few days later, along with some delicious rice produced in Echizen. Why not try making a donburi dish using local Echizen seafood?
