This tour is focused on Echizenyaki ware, which is a product of one of the so-called Six Ancient Kilns, as well as the Echizen chest of drawers that is a crystallization of local skills and technique. This tour will visit two workshops: Ryusengama for Echizenyaki ware and Echizen chest manufacturer Oyanagi Tansu. You can also see the sake brewing process and enjoy local sake together with your meal at the Katayama Shuzo brewery, Uotome (restaurant), and other locations. To Ryusengama, producer of the Echizen thin sake cup - The piece that Ryusengama's Mr. Iwama is best known for is a thin sake cup that defies conventional wisdom, with a mouth that is just 1 mm in thickness. This cup is distinctively lightweight and easy to drink from. Oyanagi Tansu was founded in 1907. Traditional industries live on in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture, where Oyanagi Tansu specializes in crafting traditional Japanese wooden furniture. Today, Oyanagi Tansu continues to break the mold every day through its proprietary brands like "kikoru" and "OYANAGI" while still carrying the torch for traditional techniques of Echizen chest production. To Katayama Shuzo, a brewery founded 250 years ago - A two-person brewery where its sake, like "Kansai" and "Tsukigasa," all seem made to drink on a special day. Uotome is a beloved ryotei (traditional Japanese restaurant) in the Takefushi area. Feel free to ask Ms. Nishimoto, the proprietress and sommelier, anything about the sake or dishes. Enjoy a relaxing time at the renovated restaurant and bar.
