"Tarao no Ie" - A combination inn and restaurant in an old Japanese-style house built 150 years ago and located in the mountains of Shigarakicho-Tarao in the southernmost region of Shiga Prefecture. Surrounded by undeveloped woodland, this is a place where time slows down and the rich Japanese natural scenery is unspoiled, just as it always was. Meals here are made to be both delicious and safe, using naturally farmed and organic vegetables, teas, Shigaraki large-grain rice, free range freshly butchered chicken, our premium tofu, homemade miso, and our own preserved foods. Take a break, pull yourself away from the daily hustle and bustle, put yourself among nature and experience a taste of the life of a previous era. In the optional workshop on bento-making, recreate the sort of bento box lunch that Japanese mothers lovingly make for their children on a daily basis, including a rolled Japanese-style omelette, sausage cut into the shape of an octopus, a rice ball made from rice cooked in an earthenware pot, vegetable side dishes, and more. Once you finish making your bento lunch, eating the final product is a blissful pleasure in itself. Have fun as you experience Japanese food culture.
