Visit a swordsmith and make your own original knife
Visit a valley rich in nature, just a 15-minute drive from Aioi Station where there is Shinkansen service. There you will be welcomed by a swordsmith with years of training who has been certified by the Cultural Affairs Agency as a master swordsmith. After watching the sparks fly as the swordsmith works, you will try making a kogatana (Samurai Knife). This is a hands-on experience of hammering heated steel. You can take the crafted samurai knife back to your country in your checked luggage, making it a perfect souvenir.
