The Akashiura Fishery Cooperative catches more than a hundred varieties of seafood, including Akashi sea bream and Akashi octopus, from the Akashi Strait with its fast currents of over 15 kilometers per hour. Most fish auctions are usually held early in the morning, but the Akashiura auction begins at 11:00 a.m. (11:30 a.m. in winter), which means you can watch this impressive spectacle without the early start. Fish from the Akashi Strait are transported live by rail. The fast-paced auction, ringing with shouted jargon, is truly impressive to watch. This tour allows you to witness it at first hand, accompanied by a knowledgeable guide. After the auction, we will travel to the Hyogo Prefecture Fisheries Hall for a cooking class with Atsuko Takayama, a guru of local seafood. Under her expert guidance, you will learn how to cook Akashi's seasonal fish and then enjoy tasting it. The Akashi seafood tour ends with a walk through Uonotana Shopping Street.
