You can reserve a historical Zen temple in Kyoto for a private experience. The tour is made up of 3 parts. 1. A garden stroll. 2. Meditation guided by a Zen monk. 3. Cafe and Q&A with a Zen monk in a historical Buddhist temple. First, you will hear a lecture about the Zen garden from an expert guide. This will teach you about the history and meaning of Zen gardens and the significance of bamboo groves and moss. Afterward, you will experience Zazen meditation under the guidance of a Zen monk in a meditation dojo built in the Edo period (1603–1867). In this authentic experience, you will experience 2 Zazen meditation sessions lasting 1 hour. Following this experience, enjoy Kyoto sencha green tea and traditional snacks while participating in a Q&A with a Zen monk in a historical building related to samurai. Experience the culture and history of Japan through these 3 processes. A portion of the proceeds of this tour will be used to maintain historical structures that are cultural properties.
