In the era when the Mozu Kofun Group (World Heritage Site) was created, the Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan) describes place called Chinuno-agatasuemu (which contains the Chinese character for "ceramics") as being located within a few kilometers of those tumuli. Immigrant potters in ancient times built upwards of a thousand kilns and engaged in the mass production of Sue ware (a type of unglazed pottery), which at the time was the largest amount of such manufacturing being conducted. In this tour, you will travel from Semboku New Town in Sakai City's Minami Ward through to the Naka Ward, visiting the "Chinuno-agatasuemu" site recorded in the Nihon Shoki, the former sites of ancient Sue ware kilns, Suearata-jinja Shrine that doubled as a hub for a potter's group and a loading site for their wares using the nearby rivers, Daisuezan Takakuraji Temple where the potters converted, and other sites brimming with history. Listen to the tour guide explain historical events as you enjoy a walk among these various sites.
