Bamboo Craft Workshop
Rakusai in Kyoto and the villages of Otokuni are famous for producing high-quality moso bamboo and Japanese timber (madake) bamboo, and as such have been a center of bamboo craftworks production since ancient times. Toyochikuko Inc. is a long-standing Kyoto business that deals in bamboo crafts that have a high artistic value. Using excellent local specialty Kyoto bamboos such as moso bamboo, Japanese timber (madake) bamboo, and gomadake ("sesame bamboo"), Toyochikuko Inc. carries all types of bamboo products including traditional tools for tea ceremony, flower arrangement, and calligraphy, as well as bamboo interior household goods, creative bamboo crafts, and special order-made bamboo products. In the hands-on bamboo workshop, participants can receive thorough instruction directly from a skilled and experienced Toyochikuko Inc. artisan instructor. In Japan's bamboo capital, under the instruction of a bamboo pro, create a bamboo work that is entirely your own while learning about traditional techniques and bamboo culture. It is also possible to arrange for the instructor to visit your hotel or elsewhere for a lesson. (Instructor travel expenses will apply)
