Pearl Picking Experience: An Intimate Exploration of the Mysteries of the Sea
- A visit to a pearl farming net on a pearl farming raft.- Experience opening shells and taking out pearls.- You can add metal fittings to the pearls that you removed and make original accessories to take home with you./- Since Kokichi Mikimoto invented an Akoya oyster cultivation method in 1893, pearl cultivation in Mie Prefecture has developed primarily in Ago Bay and came to be known as the birthplace of pearl cultivation.Several different fishing grounds are needed for pearl cultivation, depending on the process. When the Akoya pearl oysters are in their crucial stage of nurturing pearls, the water temperature must be 13 degrees Celsius or higher, plankton must be plentiful, the tides must be favorable, and the waves must be calm. Ago Bay is home to numerous pearl farms because of its compatibility with these conditions.
