- Visitors will get to speak directly to the 8th generation head of this shop that was founded in 1832.- While the main building is usually closed to the public, participants will get exclusive access and enjoy matcha green tea and sweets served on Iga ware pottery as they listen to the head of the shop talk about clay pots and Iga ware pottery.- You can keep the Iga ware plate on which the sweets are served and take it home./- Iga ware is a type of pottery made in and around Iga City in Mie Prefecture, using the clay from around the Iga area that is known for its high resistance to fire.The story starts four million years ago, as weathered granite accumulated at the bottom of Lake Biwa, creating clay that contained lignite and other substances. This clay was baked in fire made from burning the red pine from the local green forests, resulting in the creation of Iga ware pottery.Due to its high resistance to fire, this type of pottery has come to be known for producing excellent clay pots and heat-resistant tableware.
