Shingu City, located on the southern tip of the Kii Peninsula, is blessed with abundant forests and waters thanks to its warm and rainy climate. It is also the site of the Yoshino Kumano National Park. The Kumano Faith was born here, surrounded by the beauty of nature in its lush forests, the Kumanogawa, and the blue waters of the Kumano-Nada Sea. Ancient pilgrimage paths connect the sacred shrines of this faith such as Kumano Hayatama Taisha, Kumano Hongu Taisha and Kumano-Nachi Taisha, and in 2004 these ‘kodo’ were listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites as ‘Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range’. Shingu City is dotted with multiple World Heritage sites such as the Kumano Hayatama Taisha, the Kamikura Shrine, and the Asuka Shrine. The City of Wonders, Shingu is a place where the divine and the modern seamlessly weave together.
