We’re guided around the auction floor — normally off-limits to the general public — by a long-time snow crab auction professional. After our tour of the auction we make our way to the unique Echizen Crab Museum, where we can learn about snow crab habitats, the history of fishing villages, and a few intriguing snow crab mysteries. The crab fishing simulator gives us a fun taste of what real crab fishing is like. Alternative activities (photo talks or VTR viewing etc.) are substituted when auctions are canceled due to rough weather. Cancellation is sometimes only determined 1 or 2 days before the auction date.
