The old Nozato Kaido highway once served as the gateway to Himeji, and the port town that flourished along the Saigoku Kaido connecting it to the castle town of Himeji still retains traces of its history and its old atmosphere. The roads are quite tiring on foot and too narrow for cars, but are easy to get around on a power-assist cycle. This three-hour tour will show you even more of Himeji's charms, and fits in well before or after a visit to the castle.
