Experience ”Otsu-e” folk paintings, a specialty of Tokaido in the Edo period
During the Edo period, the traditional folk paintings known as "Otsu-e" were popular as a specialty of Otsujuku, an inn town on the Tokaido Highway. Their distinctive patterns have been praised overseas as well. Come and experience the history of traditional culture handed down in the region and the unique way of painting Otsu-e as you make your very own unique Otsu-e. Even those who find it difficult to draw can have fun with this experience. After the activity, visit the only remaining Otsu-e shop remaining within the city. You can also admire a variety of Otsu-e paintings that carry on the long-standing tradition. Lunch will be Buddhist vegetarian cuisine inspired by the Otsu-e paintings, and visitors can also enjoy a stroll along the shopping street, which still retains the atmosphere of the inn town.
