Kurayoshi gasuri kimono program
Passed down since the Edo period, Kurayoshi Kasuri is a traditional craft of Kurayoshi. Kurayoshi Kasuri is a type of hand-woven fabric that is known for its intricate and beautiful patterns that are woven directly into the fabric, like paintings. It is known for its auspicious designs, featuring motifs like camellia, the city tree of Kurayoshi, as well as hemp leaves and tortoiseshell patterns. Kurayoshi Kasuri has been produced in Kurayoshi since the Edo period, when cotton was a specialty product of the area. Over 200 years later, the traditional techniques are still being passed down. Why not stroll through the streets of the Shirakabe Dozogun (white-walled storehouse district) adorned in this beautiful patterned kimono? Men can also participate.
