Yassai Hossai at Iwatsuta Jinja
This fire festival is based on a local legend in which fishermen were said to have warmed the god Ebis (sea god), who drifted ashore on Ishizu-no-hama beach. In this unique Shinto festival, three men carry a man in a costume of the sea god and walk through a bonfire, crying “Yassai, hossai.”
