Local fish restaurant Marusan-ya
The Wakasa region has long been known as a special producer of excellent food. The Wakasa Bay is also known for seafood, where the variety and quantity of fish caught is one of the largest in Japan. Marusan-ya, a restaurant under the direct management of a local fish wholesaler, is popular for its reasonably priced seasonal fish caught that day in Wakasa Bay.
Conveniently located just a three-minute walk from JR Tsuruga Station, the restaurant offers a wide variety of seating style from tables, tatami rooms, and counters to private rooms, with a maximum capacity of 100 people. In this spacious restaurant, you can enjoy seasonal seafood such as Japanese Spanish mackerel (sayori) in spring, sea bass (suzuki) in summer, mackerel in autumn, Wakasa fugu and Echizen crab. You can also try the local dish, a mackerel fermented in rice malt, called saba-no-heshiko.
The Marusan store is set on the ground floor. The store sells Echizen and Wakasa Regeons' specialties such as roasted mackerel and grilled mackerel sushi, making it a great place to pick up souvenirs.
