One of the biggest citizen festivals in the city!
The Himeji Castle Festival got its start after WWII, with the castle as a symbol of postwar restoration. The festival was designed to foster new life and to act as a foundation on which the spirits of the citizenry could be rebuilt. The festival involves people from all over the city, and has become a signifier of early summer in Himeji. It takes place in the area surrounding Himeji Castle, with performances of firelight noh, historical parades, dancing where everyone gets involved, and the Yosakoi Dance Festival.
