Saioh Festival
Saioh was an unmarried female who served at Ise Grand Shrine on behalf of the Japanese Emperors. The highlight of Saioh Festival is “Saioh Gunko” that reenacts Saioh and her suites’ journeys from Kyoto to Saiku in Ise. More than 100 people in Heian-era fancy clothing make the procession (Gunko) through the official historical site of the remains of Saiku Palace: Saiku Heian-Era Park→Uezono Shibafu Square→Saiku Historical Museum.
