The northernmost cape in the Kinki region, its name means "Cape of Sutras." One theory on the name's origin is that it is because the cape's andesite columnar jointing resembles the appearance of Buddhist scriptures. Also, the surrounding area is a verified habitat of the Peregrine falcon.
