【Description】
The Kita Tajima Earthquake of 1925 caused catastrophic damage because the land where the city of Toyo'oka was built was especially susceptible to seismic movements, as the soil deposited here over an inlet was relatively soft. To make the city more resistance to earthquakes, the people erected buildings constructed with reinforced concrete in the years afterward to produce Toyo'naka's then-modern streets. Structures from that era still remain today, providing a window onto the retro style from the early 20th century.
