【Description】
The base of the Nekozaki Peninsula comprises sandstone, conglomerate and volcanic tuff that accumulated from rivers and other sources near mainland Asia back when the Sea of Japan first began expanding. Fossilized footprints of elephant and deer, as well as plant fossils, can be found in the area. The tip of the peninsula is rich with rhyolite, a product of volcanic activity that followed later. Here you can see vertical formations called columnar joints.
