【Description】
Lava such as andesite and volcanic tuff that belched forth into depressions that formed along the border with mainland Asia early in the Sea of Japan's period of expansion have since eroded to leave behind the small islands along the rocky shore, among them being White Stone Island and Meoto-iwa (a pair of rocks named for their representation of a married couple). A dike of rhyolite producing pillow-like jointing forms the cape and islands. Nearby is Hanazuru Domon Cave, which has been eroded by the waves but sits above sea level.
