The exposed Midori basalt here that dates back about 220,000 years rises up along a sheer cliff for 20 meters along a 70-meter stretch. The pillars of precipitous columnar joints have a diameter of around 50 cm. The fascinating cross-sections of these columns can have a square, pentagon or hexagon shape.
