Koitani Bridge
The valley spanned by Koitani Bridge, which means "Love Valley Bridge," was given a similar name by the French Embassy: "La vallée de l'Amour." The nighttime illuminations are beautiful. There is an arbor on the walking path, making this a perfect place for a couple to spend a romantic time. In the middle of the bridge is a mascot of sorts for Misasa Hot Spring: the Ceramic Kajika Frog. Gently rubbing the frog's head is said to bring luck in love, hence the amphibian's other name, "Kajika Frog of Matchmaking." If you're staying at Misasa Hot Spring, make sure to stop by this spot. The bridge is also popular for its appearance in the film "Koitani Bridge." Hung on either side of the matchmaking Kajika frog are wooden prayer plaques sporting frog designs. And make sure you give the frog a nice pat on the head. The Kajika frog prayer plaques for matchmaking are sold at Misama Hot Spring inns, the tourist information center and shops. (The plaques are pre-blessed by the Kurayoshi branch of Izumo Grand Shrine.)
