Shinmachi Boardwalk

You can walk along the Shinmachi River on wooden planks laid out in this downtown pedestrian area. The boards are made of Brazilian ipe wood that is often used for decks. The sound of footsteps on the wood is pleasant to the ear. The boardwalk's parasol shop holds a variety of events like the Tokushima Marche. The board walk and Shinmachi Riverside Park on the opposite bank create a setting that is a symbolic space of Tokushima as a city of water.
