The Tottori Earthquake of September 10, 1943 was a magnitude-7.2 event that produced this fault. The fault was formed at the same time as the Yoshioka Fault that runs through the City of Tottori. The prefecture has designated signs of the Shikano fault, including unused water lines and stone walls in the Shikanocho district, as a natural monument.
