A general museum of the history and culture of Kyoto
The rich and colorful history and culture of Kyoto is displayed in an easy-to-understand manner at this comprehensive cultural facility that offer visitors a unique "honmamon" (genuine) experience of Kyoto through the ages. As well as a variety of exhibitions, classic films from the Kyoto Prefectural Government's collection are screened in the museum's film theater. Attractions include the Museum Annex, which was formerly the Kyoto Branch of the Bank of Japan (now a National Important Cultural Property), and the Roji Tempo shops constructed in Kyoto's machiya style.
