Said to have been visited by emperors, and exalted in the famous Manyoshu anthology of poems, it is one of the three oldest hot springs in Japan, alongside Arima and Dogo. Home to over 120 natural springs and over 90 hotels, it has one of Japan's highest concentrations of hot springs to enjoy.
