Motoyu, Ryujin Onsen

A tranquil onsen with 1,300 years of history, Motoyu at Ryujin Onsen is said to be one of the top three in Japan for achieving beautiful skin. This remote hot spring is rumored to have been discovered by En no Gyoja and later opened as an onsen by Kobo Daishi, who had a divine revelation regarding the deity Nanda Ryuo. Its colorless, clear waters, rich in sodium bicarbonate, invigorate the skin and are famous for their beautification properties. Along with the Kawanaka and Yunokawa onsens in Gunma and Shimane prefectures, respectively, it constitutes one of Japan's three "waters of beauty."
