Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine

Known as one of the Kumano Sanzan, or Three Grand Shrines Of Kumano, Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine is the head shrine of the Kumano faith across Japan, and is worshipped by many. The shrine's majestic shaden (main hall) stands in this sacred area. Designated as World Heritage in 2004 as the "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range and the Cultural Landscapes that Surround Them," the area is also famous for its hot springs, such as Kawayu Onsen where hot springs rise up from the bottom of the river, Yunomine Onsen and Watarase Onsen.
