The unique homes and stone walls of Ochiai Village were built between the mid-Edo period and the Meiji period on a steep hillside. Rich in historical value, the area has been designated as Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings by the Japanese government, and of these designated districts, Ochiai Village is on the steepest incline.
