Experience the traditional craft of Wakasa - Miketsukuni Wakasa Obama Food Culture Museum
On the first floor of this museum are numerous themed exhibits about Japanese cuisine. These include the “Sushi, the model of world-loved Japanese cuisine” exhibit, which explains the origins of sushi, and the “Zoni, Japan’s most popular New Year dish” exhibit. At the Wakasa Workshop on the second floor, visitors can learn about the traditional handicrafts of Obama—such as Wakasa lacquered chopsticks, Wakasa agate crafts, Wakasa washi paper, and Wakasa clay tiles—through displays of work by craftsmen who have continued these crafts, as well as experiential workshops. Visitors can also try their hand at cooking at the Kitchen Studio (reservations required).
