Misasa-jinja Shrine
This shrine provides spiritual protection to Misasa Hot Spring. Numerous deities, including Onamuchi-no-Mikoto (also known as Okuninushi) and Susanoo-no-Mikoto, are enshrined here. The handwashing area for purification upon entry is supplied with a constant flow of spring water containing radium. Some even refer to it as being divine. Synonymous with the Misasa Hot Spring, the shrine has also been the set of films. There is an ancient tree here that appeared in a scene during "The Ballad of Misasa," a film made about 80 years ago. More recently, it was the setting for another movie, "Koitani Bridge."
