The Tanabe City Museum of Art is in Shinjo Park on a rise overlooking Tanabe Bay. Opened in 1996, the museum serves as a cultural center for Tanabe and the Kinan region through the collection, preservation and exhibition of fine art. At the core of the museum collection are Nanga(Classical Chinese-Style painting) and modern paintings by Japanese, which are displayed in changing exhibitions. Special exhibitions are held each year to present other works and artists from the collection, and works and artists with links to the Kinan region.
