The institute is the oldest research institute of amusement industry studies in Japan. While researches on games and gambling existed, those were case-by-case or transient manner, no such those analyze entire amusement industry comprehensively, continuously on a university level. The Institute of Amusement Industry Studies, Osaka University of Commerce was founded in April 2001, in order to provide expert research on the amusement industry.
