Ube-jinja Shrine is listed in the Engishiki, an ancient Japanese legal text written over 1,000 years ago, as a ""grand shrine."" It was also the greatest shrine in what was then Inaba Province. Enshrined here is Takeuchi no Sukune, a deity of longevity. Generations of lords from Tottori Domain also prayed here. The lion dance performed here at annual festivals has been designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.
