Kannon-in Garden
This garden on the grounds of Kannon-in Temple is a national place of scenic beauty. Stones are inserted into the natural contours of the land, accompanied by planted trees. The magnificent pond occupies about half the garden. This is intentional, as the garden is designed for viewing the pond as part of the scenery. Ikeda Mitsunaka, a 17th-century feudal lord, had the garden landscaped over the course of a decade. The stones representing a turtle, crane and waterfall have been left exactly where they were originally placed. Visitors can sit down with a free cup of green tea as they admire the view. It's the perfect way to relax. Meanwhile, Kannon-in is one of eight temples where members of the Ikeda clan, who ruled Tottori region, would come to offer prayers. The principal image is a statue of Kannon, a deity of mercy with 11 faces and 1,000 arms (symbolized by 40 arms on the statue, each of which helps souls in 25 different worlds).
