This old shrine is mentioned in the Engishiki, an ancient Japanese legal text written over 1,000 years ago. Nomo-no-Sukune, the legendary creator of sumo, is enshrined here. The surrounding woods on this flat land are an example of old-growth communities, primeval trees that remained on the Tottori Plain and are of great academic value.
