The Shiba Ryotaro Memorial Museum opened in November 2001 next to the author’s home in a residential district in Higashiosaka City. Designed by Tadao Ando, the museum encourages visitors to “think” and “feel,” rather than simply “see.” The highlight of the museum is the open, three-layered bookshelf that stands approximately 11 meters tall. It stores around 20,000 books, and showcases the spirit of Shiba Ryotaro.
