Nara Palace Site
[A relic of the enormous capital from 1,300 years ago]
This site was the center of the capital city of the Nara Period (710-784) Heijo-kyo, which lasted for 74 years and produced seven emperors. The area features the Nara Palace Site Museum, which exhibits scale models of buildings and artifacts such as mokkan (ancient wooden tablets), coins, roof tiles and earthenware, and the Excavation Site Exhibition Hall, which is in charge of preservation and exhibition of the area. The reconstructed Imperial Audience Hall, Suzaku Gate, and East Palace Garden also show off the elegant architecture of the period. (Image Provided by Nara Visitors Bureau)
