The Phoenix Fold

These folds were formed when the sandstones and the mudstones of the Muro Group had moved by the plate subduction. The sandstone layer had been forced upon the landside before it hardened causing it to fold into this complicated shape. The layers are upside-down, and it is famous worldwide for its unique appearance.
